To discern it is greater than to learn it

Google is at the finger tips of most people. Want to know something? Google it. Pull out your phone and do a quick search, nothing is out of reach, all they information in the world is available whenever you desire it. But when it comes to the things God had freely given us, which Paul describes in 1 Corinthians 1:30 as:
wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption’ . Paul writes that these things must be understood through discernment not through being better educated, learned, or through some other means. They are grasped and understood through the Spirit of faith;

Now we have received not the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand the things freely given us by God... The natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolish to him, and he is not able to understand them because they are spiritually discerned.

It stands to reason that one cannot live out of a reality that one does not understand. You cannot live as a righteousn person before God without understanding that’s who you are in Christ. Yet no amount of being told will shift you into a place of understanding for being better educated and having knowledge about what God has given is not the same as understanding what you have received.

We need the Spirit. We need to discern truth not just learn truth (and don’t get me wrong, in a teacher so I am all about learning, but learning without the Spirit creates Pharisees or wierdos, not disciples). We need to be taught spiritual realities by the Spirit of God so that what is foolish to the world is clearly understood by those who believe.

May we be led, taught, inspired, motivated and moved by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God in all that we, say and believe.

For further study, read 1 Corinthians 1-2 and ask God for understanding.
